and a lot of books
- I love books, my best friend sent me this poem
- she found, and it best describes my love for
books --
- My father taught me that everyday was a miracle
- to embrace and each day was a celebration.

- She collects old books,
Not rare, expensive volumes
that bring a price from dealers.
But books that others
might consider nondescript.
Unassuming books,
like well worn texts
from longago school rooms,
ink stamped
with the word "discarded."
Books haphazardly placed
on card tables
somewhere near the back,
at garage sales.
Those who put them there
most likely thinking,
"Who would want these?"
but to her,
they're like the faces
of old people,
their signs of age
hinting at wisdom
gained from living long.
Their faded words
on dry, thin paper,
speak in raspy whispers.
She brings them home,and
- leafing through their pages, listens,
and hears unchanging truths.
